First things
in life will always be remembered. Very excited to write my first travel
blog on first trek experience. I went to this trek long back in
November 2011. Four of us started from Mangalore early morning
in a KSRTC bus, the destination was the Bolle Falls somewhere
around Beltangady. Two others in our group had earlier experience of
trekking to Didupe Falls near Beltangady. After landing
at Beltangady we finished our breakfast and began to enquire about the exact location of the
falls with the bus conductors. After enquiring for about half an hour finally
we boarded a bus which goes to
Killur via Kajur - Kolli route. The bus route to
Killur was filled with lush green and beautiful mountains at a distance
were a treat to the eyes. We got down at Killur, a small village. There is
a mud road near bus stand which leads to the falls. Though an auto would take
us half way through the falls, we decided to go on foot. As we were thinking of
returning early by around 4 PM, we just picked some biscuits and
chocolates from a small shop nearby. Starting on the trail to the falls we
came across paddy fields and Areca nut and Coconut plantations at the
beginning.
After crossing paddy fields we crossed two small streams and a trail
passing through dense forest.
One good
thing was that most of the trekking route was a rocky mud road on which 3
people could easily walk side by side. People living here use the Jeep to
travel on this road, though it is not possible to travel in Monsoons. Of course not to forget about the Leaches all over the
places and we had nothing but some salt to sue them which lasted soon.
Frustration and tiredness were growing inside us slowly and we had covered almost 6-7 Kms. That was when we found a house. What a sigh of relief!!
The "Bolle Mane" family gave us guidance to reach the falls.
From there, the trail was hardly recognizable and was covered with dense forest. Since monsoon ended just then, the path was moist and leeches were eagerly
waiting to feast on our blood.
Finally after trekking in the jungle for around 40 min we heard sounds of the
falls, which gave a sigh of relief and motivated to move quicker.
There was, the beautiful Bolle falls. Descending majestically from about
45-50 feet height. The fall was eye teasing with the
scenic beauty around it. We couldn't stop ourselves but to drench beneath the
falls.
Though there was no pond below the falls, one
could comfortably stand right below the falls and feel the force of
it. The chilling water washed away our tiredness and all frustration that we
felt to reach here and gave a fresh feeling.
After relaxing for more than an hour or so in and around the falls, we
headed back to the bus stand keeping in mind that there will be limited buses
to return. All of us were very hungry. As soon as we reached Beltangady, we rushed to a small hotel and satisfied our tummy. Done that, we started back
to Mangalore cherishing the journey moments.
The wonderful experience of this first trek boosted me to be
enthusiastic in exploring the nature and a new group to hang out.
